Good people, Or bad.....

In her diary, Anne Frank wrote that she believed “most people are good.”  Do you agree with Anne?  If so, why, and if not, why not?
I do agree with Anne. I think that she should have stressed the word “most” people because I believe everyone has a hint of good inside them. During the Holocaust most people were going along with Hitler and his opinions. People have their own opinion. For example, in the movie The Pianist the Jewish police helped Wladyslaw Szpilman escape the transport to the Treblinka death camp. So some people had good in them even if their job was to enforce Nazis rules. The job of the Jewish police was to make sure the Jews in the ghettos are punished if they do something wrong and  to tell the Nazis.  In this case, do you think the Jewish police were “good” or “bad’?  “Most” people have good in them, it just depends on their environment.

  1. I think that the Jewish police were ¨good¨ because they were just doing their job. I think that their job is how most people will determine if the Jewish police were ¨good¨ or ¨bad¨. The people themselves can be ¨good¨ people and have things that make them ¨bad¨ people.
Also, I agree with you when you say that it just depends on the environment the people are in because the situation can totally change your mood or tone towards other people.

  2. I also agree, I think most people have good in them but the pressure from society makes them do certain actions to "fit in with the crowd" so to speak. This fits in with cultural power affecting the way people think because they feel if they do go against society they'd be the odd one out. The Nazi's police man may have been good people at heart, but due to the fact that their job was so strict they couldn't go with their gut instinct. It seems like you and I both believe that people are good at heart. Another person who also believes that is philosopher Rousseau, he once stated "People are good at their state of nature but society corrupts them." Other situations may be the way the person was brought up or the circumstances they were put in. Perhaps they needed to do bad in order to support their families. One can not judge another person until they are being put in the same situation.
